My parents and I visited this establishment yesterday afternoon! Boy, what a great place to eat! Everything was good! From the appetizers, main course, even the salad! I truly appreciated the waiters customer service and willingness to make sure my family and I had a great dining experience!
Big portions and am I got atmosphere. I live coming here for lunch and sitting at the bar. The staff is always on point and treat you like you’re home. Definitely check this place out
The husband and I were in Newark with a friend for the day and decided to stop by and introduce our friend to the Portuguese cuisine, we all had the bitoque and boy was it a great choice. This place is a gem, now to obvious but had a great time, service was amazing, food was beyond.
Truly a special experience! Portugalia is not fancy nor does it give a sign of pretense. It is simply a genuine, awesome cultural experience in Newark! I live in the Bronx and come here because it's that awesome! You will hear mostly Portuguese spoken. Every time I go in the weekends, it's packed. The portions are very large so I would advise to order one entree to share and skip the appetizer or two appetizers is sufficient. Their bacalhau (codfish)!!! It take a while (over 30 min.) But it's so worth it when you get that juicy, charred cod!!! They have a full bar with a few beers on tap including one of Portugal's national beer, Super Bock. Their sangria is also very nice with good (strong) ingredients. Really good calamari too!
Was recommended by a friend, bar on one side , dining room on the other. Excellent Portuguese food. Totally enjoyed this mini steak sandwich ! Parking is tough.. take UBER and drink more Sangria !
I was in the ironbound section of Newark to have my dog groomed when I decided to wander the streets and learn about the neighborhood. I saw that Portugalia Bar & Restaurant was rated well so I thought I'd give it a shot. I sat at the bar and got in a conversation with a local. He recommended I try the chicken and he was spot on! It was spiced just right and tasty, the olives were delicious and the cranberry juice was refreshing. The carbs were too plentiful so I ate them sparingly. The server was friendly and gave great service. Bottom line: This place is a neighborhood gem with fair prices and yummy food. The locals are friendly and down to earth. It's not fancy, but it was what I wanted and a perfect setting to experience the area.
Great place for dinner. Sit down side and bar service side. Well staffed and excellent Portugese food. Many seafood options. Prices are reasonable. Eaten there a dozen times will on the way to Newark airport.
The food here is great sangria is on point I always order a pitcher of red when I go. The chicken her is fantastic along with other great dishes like the paella.
Real authentic Portuguese food. Huge portions and great service! This place is s must if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.
Stopped here unplanned and it was truly such a great experience! My husband and I shared the lunch special of thin steak with sides, and it was delicious. We will definitely be back when we are back in the Ironbound area. Great lunch today.
